Career Step to Cohost First ICD-10 Coding Summit Broadcast

Career Step and ICD10monitor will tackle how to prevent coding-related denials and avoid cash flow disruption in a special May 19 broadcast.

LEHI, UT, May 13, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, will cohost the healthcare industry's first ICD-10 summit in a special 90-minute online broadcast Thursday, May 19, in partnership with ICD10monitor.

"ICD-10 Coding Summit: Mitigating Claim Denials Under ICD-10" will look at how medical coding and billing professionals proactively reduce the potential for coding-related denials with the implementation of ICD-10 and the resulting DRG shifts. According to industry reports, this shift is projected to cost healthcare organizations approximately 3 percent of their net revenue from the impact on denied claims.

"Analyzing a denied claim can cost $50 to $100 per case, if not more, so learning to prevent such expensive reviews and denials is critical for today's coding professionals," said Career Step Vice President of Product Management Laurie McBrierty. "We want to help them avoid denials in the first place by giving them the skills and knowledge to tackle tough real-life scenarios they are likely to face with ICD-10."

The broadcast will feature expertise from McBrierty along with Dee Lang, owner of Dee-L & Associates and an AHIMA-trained ICD-10-CM/PCS instructor; George V. Vancore, Jr., senior manager and systems integrator and business architect for Florida Blue; and Holly Louie, president of the Healthcare Billing and Management Association.

"The DRG shifts we are seeing as a result of ICD-10 have had a greater impact than anyone anticipated," said Mike Hodgson, Career Step Executive Vice President of Healthcare Partnerships and Products. "It has been a challenging transition for medical coding professionals, and we are glad we can help them tackle these problems with the right educational tools and techniques."
The summit will include what to look for when analyzing DRG shifts, how to use new auditing approaches to mitigate denials, and why it is essential to refresh and sharpen your DRG and ICD-10-PCS coding skills.

The broadcast, which is being provided free as a public service by sponsor Career Step and producer ICD10monitor, will stream online from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 19. To register, please visit http://eventcallregistration.com/reg/index.jsp?cid=6246211t11.
