Carlsbad National Fuel Cycle Summit Registration Now Live

Registration is now live for the Carlsbad National Nuclear Fuel Cycle Summit, scheduled for Oct. 14-17 in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

CARLSBAD, NM, August 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Registration is now live for the Carlsbad National Nuclear Fuel Cycle Summit, scheduled for Oct. 14-17 in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The focus of this year's Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) summit will be balancing policy with science, and a large group of elected officials, congressional staffers, government employees, and nuclear industry representatives are expected to attend.

A web site, www.nuclearfuelcyclesummit.org, has been set up as a one-stop shop for all information related to the Carlsbad National Nuclear Fuel Cycle Summit, including registration, sponsorship, accommodations and background material about Carlsbad and the world-class Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).

WIPP is a Department of Energy facility used for the permanent disposal of defense-generated transuranic (TRU) waste. TRU waste is permanently disposed of in the thick salt beds of an underground repository, 2,150 beneath the earth's surface.

"We're open for signups today," said CDOD President Dave Sepich. "Our staff has put together an outstanding web site. I encourage everyone to visit, sign up for the conference, browse the site for excellent information, and then come back every few days as we add even more information about our speakers and events."

The registration web page is accessed through "The Summit" tab at www.nuclearfuelcyclesummit.org. The page includes registration button for students, elected officials and other attendees, along with access to a form for all attendees who would like to tour WIPP.

"Touring WIPP was a huge draw at our last summit, and we know it will be popular again this year," Sepich said. "Space is limited, however, so we encourage attendees to sign up right away and let us know they want to see the world's most successful cleanup effort first hand."

The Carlsbad Department of Development has a booth promoting the summit at the National Conference for State Legislators (NCSL) 39th annual Legislative Summit, Aug. 12-15 in Atlanta.

The first Carlsbad National Nuclear Fuel Cycle Summit drew hundreds of attendees, with speakers including Governor Susana Martinez, Congressman Steve Pearce, Blue Ribbon Commission Member Per Peterson and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Manager Takeshi Ota.

In addition to the web site, www.nuclearfuelcyclesummit.org, information about the Carlsbad National Nuclear Fuel Cycle Summit can also be obtained by calling the Carlsbad Department of Development at 575-887-6562.

The Carlsbad Department of Development promotes the economic and general welfare of the citizens of the City of Carlsbad and South Eddy County, New Mexico.
