Carol Anne Smiley Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Smiley has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the healthcare industry

BRATTLEBORO, VT, August 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Carole Anne Smiley a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Ms. Smiley celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Having devoted over 25 years to home health care in Brattleboro, Ms. Smiley reflects on the 24-hour-a-day hospice work as some of the most gratifying in a life filled with experiences. "Towards the end (of life), to make a comfortable passage for someone who is dying-you take on the negative energy of that person and they have a peaceful death. You get to go home and meditate and release all that," she said of the experience. Today, Ms. Smiley still serves as a consultant in grassroots home health, and is celebrated as a noted sculptor.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Ralph Derold and Mary C. Miller, Ms. Smiley married Donald Victor Smiley in 1956 and raised four children: Donald Victor Jr., Julie Ann, Joseph Charles, and Thomas Wayne. She entered professional life with something of a bang, becoming co-founder, vice president, secretary and treasurer of Anvic Enterprise in her hometown from 1963 to 1970. Added to the role of entrepreneur was the role of political contributor, and in 1971, she joined the Republican Central Committee for Johnson County, Iowa. Ms. Smiley followed it up with a second venture, Yankee Horse Trader in Bennington, Vermont, in which she served as co-founder and director.

In 1973, Ms. Smiley briefly taught at Solon High School in Iowa. From 1970 to 1986, Ms. Smiley offered her services as as an organic farmer in Solon, Iowa, and Argyle, New York. She has been creating fiber sculpture since 1970, and in 1974, Ms. Smiley began to seriously exhibit with a show in Green Mount Collaborative in Bennington. She went on to exhibit at the Woman Art Gallery in New York City, as well as the 1978 Lincoln Center Group Show.

Over the course of her life, Ms. Smiley has had three great loves, art, her children, and healthcare. In 1986, she joined Home Health Care and Hospice in Brattleboro, Vermont as a caregiver and coordinator. Her experiences made a meaningful impact, and when she retired in 2011, she sought to share those insights as a consultant. Additionally, Ms. Smiley has been a longstanding member of the American Civil Liberties Union.

For her generous spirit and dedication to the elderly, Ms. Smiley was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women, and two volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Ms. Smiley is now 80 years old, and currently spends half the year in Spain, privately tutoring students in English, and writing poetry.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Smiley has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
