Carol van Schenkhof's global singing and teaching career has taken her around the world



    PORT WASHINGTON, NY, March 09, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carol Dougherty van Schenkhof (Carol Dovan) has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Carol van Schenkhof's global singing and teaching career has taken her around the world. Europe, Africa and Asia have heard her in opera, live concerts, and national radio and television broadcasts. She has performed on Rhodesian TV Ltd, South African Broadcasting, Emissora Nacional de Radiofusao (Lisbon, Portugal), Radiotelevisione Svizzera (Lugano, Switzerland) and was a visiting artist at Ewha University (Seoul, Korea), and Conservatorio Nacional (Lisbon, Portugal). Closer to home she sang with the Metropolitan Opera Studio (The Metropolitan Opera Young Artist's Division), National Grand Opera, Chautauqua Opera Association and numerous regional companies. In addition she has sung extensively as a soloist throughout the United States in concert recitals and oratorios. Among these were Asociacion Pro Zarzuela en America (Alice Tully Hall-Lincoln Center), Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (soprano soloist with Jerome Hines, Bass - Reading Symphony Orchestra), Best of Opera at Carnegie Hall (Westchester Lyric Festival-Placido Domingo, Honorary Director), Aspen Music Festival, Center for Inter-American Relations, Trinity Church Wall Street Concert Series (St. Paul's Chapel) and has toured with the Festival Chamber Players and the Amicus Quartet. Ms. van Schenkhof has been a Lincoln Center Resource Professional. She has been heralded by critics and audiences alike as a "remarkable talent, a great success, a glorious voice." The words "warm, delightful, powerful and coy" all describe her mastery of interpretation.

A highly respected voice teacher for over thirty years, Carol has been on the adjunct faculties of Stony Brook University, Fordham University, C. W. Post College and the Chatham College Laboratory School of Music. Her students have won national and international competitions and enjoy careers in film, concert, opera and musical theater in the United States and Europe. She is an adjudicator for the National Association of Teachers of Singing Eastern Region and New York City, Associated Music Teachers League, and New York State School Music Association. She currently maintains a private studio in Port Washington, New York.

Ms. Van Schenkhof holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Chatham College (Lorenzo Malfatti), Graduate Studies in Voice at the Juilliard School (Hans Heinz), MA in Ethnomusicology from Hunter College (specializing in Middle Eastern Vocal Styles - Rose Brandel). Her years of voice pedagogy training were at the Oberlin Conservatory with the renowned Richard Miller, and presently with the internationally esteemed soprano/pedagogue Irene Gubrud.

Ms. van Schenkhof is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, American Guild of Musical Artists, New York Singing Teachers' Association and is a board member of the Associated Music Teachers League. Her outstanding career has earned her many awards and inclusion in Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
