/24-7PressRelease/ -- Leading Republican Congressional candidate Liz Carter today called into question Representative Hank Johnson's handling of the ongoing, closed-door discussions of U.S. healthcare reform.
Johnson is taking a hidden, back-room approach as he joins fellow Democrats in "reforming" the world's highest standard for healthcare, according to Carter.
"There is no excuse for keeping Americans out of the room as our so-called Congressional leaders destroy our healthcare rights," Carter said. "The House and Senate are virtually in secret collusion to ram through changes that get to the heart of personal liberties - our rights to protect and promote the health of ourselves and our families."
"I would challenge Hank Johnson to do the right thing and refuse to support any legislation that was better kept from the eyes of those he claims to represent," Carter added. "If these reforms are so needed and so beneficial to all, what could Hank Johnson possibly have to hide?"
Carter contends there is a much more simple and effective means of addressing U.S. healthcare, which Johnson is opting to ignore.
"Our best option is to simply fight the over-regulation of healthcare - a move that would help lower costs and prevent patients' losses," Carter said. "We need to get bureaucrats out of the business of deciding our care alternatives."
"The truth is, this 'reform' will cost lives and destroy even more jobs," Carter said. "Johnson's support of this legislation is furthering this recession and bringing more pain to families here in the Fourth District."
