SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, June 23, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/
-- Catherine M. Oh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Starr Education Services Inc., has been named a Worldwide Branding Executive of the Year in Educational Placement Services. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.
After an extensive 25 years of professional experience in educational placement services, Ms. Oh has achieved significant success through her specialization in boarding schools. Her passion for children and education, coupled with an expertise in the industry, makes Ms. Oh uniquely qualified to lead Starr Education Services Inc. as president and chief executive officer. For the past two decades, she has run this educational placement facility that works to place Korean students in U.S. boarding schools. The company also provides student management services throughout the academic year. These include: monitoring their academic success, speaking with them and their academic advisors on a regular basis, and managing their account at school. So, Starr serves as in loco parentis for them. Starr also translates newsletters from each school for parents, and provides crisis intervention services to help students who are in serious trouble with disciplinary problems. Lastly, Starr begins providing college counseling services as early as the sophomore year and ultimately places students at colleges and graduate schools.
As president and chief executive officer, Ms. Oh oversees the placement services by consulting with clients. She became involved in educational consulting because she realized the lack of esteemed consultants in Korea, and noticed that many people were being hurt by fraudulent consultants. Ms. Oh's passion and perseverance has made the company a success. She says that the highlight of this success is when students come back to thank her when they are accepted into universities.
Ms. Oh has two children and three grandchildren. All of her children are working in the education industry, and her son and daughter-in-law are in the business at Starr. Her daughter ran the Boston office from 1996 until 2011, and is now working at one of the most prestigious schools in the Boston area. The Boston office is now run by her sister, and Ms. Oh has also worked with her husband for the past 44 years of their marriage.
Prior to joining Starr Education Services Inc., Ms. Oh earned a degree in mathematics in 1971. Looking forward, Ms. Oh aims to maintain the high level of success and recognition she has achieved thus far in her career. She began her career in 1969 as an intern for the Korean Government's Crown Corporation. And she became a member of the KOTRA in 1970 to 1972. From 1972-1974, she worked as the liaison director between the sales team and the president of the Dae Woo Corporation in Montreal. From 1974-1989, she had her own business. In the coming years, she wants to expand her operation to bring various Asian nationalities to the U.S. and other foreign countries.
