ELMER, NJ, February 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Celtic firebrands have a special place in the annals of popular music, and in the hearts of the American public. Solas, a Gaelic word meaning "light," heads the list of groups that set the stage blazing wherever they perform. The acclaimed band will bring their artistry to the stage of Appel Farm Arts and Music Center on Saturday, March 7 at 8:00 PM. A blending of traditional Celtic music with contemporary influences gives Solas a unique sound that is heralded by critics and audiences around the world:

"The finest Celtic ensemble this country has ever produced...combines a deep empathy for the wild grace of traditional music with a savvy understanding of modern arrangement, creating a remarkably contemporary and timeless sound that led them immediately to Celtic superstardom." - The Boston Globe

Now entering their second decade, Solas features a lineup of accomplished musicians: Seamus Egan (flute, tenor banjo, mandolin, whistle, guitar and bodhran), Winifred Horan (fiddle), Mick McAuley (accordion and concertina), Eamon McElholm (guitar and keyboards) and Mairead Phelan (vocals). The internationally celebrated supergroup has captured the hearts and ears of fans all around the globe with their blend of Celtic traditional, folk and country melodies, bluesy sometimes jazz-inspired improvisations and global rhythms. Solas has played at all the major folk festivals, across America in performing arts centers and around the world from Dublin to Moscow.

"Solas has electrified crowds everywhere it has played; it's an Irish traditional band bearing all the marks of greatness." -The Wall Street Journal
