(Charles) Arthur Turner Honored for Excellence in Fine Art

Mr. Turner is a skilled art educator whose work has been displayed worldwide

    HOUSTON, TX, December 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- (Charles) Arthur Turner has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Turner is an accomplished painter and art instructor who works primarily in watercolor, acrylic, collage and ink. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Moody Gallery in Houston, and the Patricia Moore Gallery in Aspen, Colo., as well as in group shows in Austria, Norway, and across the U.S. Further, Mr. Turner has pieces represented in permanent collections in Texas, Illinois, Michigan, New York, and Tennessee. His art has also been published in numerous magazines and publications, including Houston Magazine and the Houston Chronicle. Mr. Turner is proud to be represented by the Moody Gallery and the Walter Wickiser Gallery in New York.

To prepare for his career as an artist, Mr. Turner earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northern Texas State University in 1962 and a Master of Fine Arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1966. He began teaching his craft as an instructor for the Birmingham Art Association, and then became an assistant professor at Madison College (now known as James Madison University). Mr. Turner began his long tenure as an instructor with the Glassell School of Art in 1968. Over the years, he has also fulfilled guest instructor roles at the University of Houston, the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, the Hill Country Arts Foundation, the Sue Barnum Studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Malakademie Schloss Goldegg in Salzburg, Austria. A major highlight of his career was exhibiting six of his paintings in the Spirit of the Planet exhibit at the U.S. Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna, 2002, as part of the Art in Embassies program.

A member of the Texas Watercolor Society and the Texas Fine Arts Society, Mr. Turner has received a number of awards in recognition of his talent in art. These include a First Purchase Award at the Beaumont Art Museum's 20th Annual Exhibition in 1971, a First Place Award at the Corpus Christi Art Foundation Annual Exhibition in 1973, a travel grant from the Glassell School of Art in 1992, and a First Place Award at the Clear Lake Arts Alliance Exhibition in 2000. His achievements have also been highlighted in the 23rd through 36th editions of Who's Who in American Art, the 20th and 21st editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and the 1st edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
