Charles Corry, Ph.D., Recognized for Excellence in Nonprofit Operations Management

Geophysicist Dr. Charles Corry is passionate about defending civil liberties and assisting veterans

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, December 21, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Charles Corry has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As the father of a disabled Marine and a military veteran himself, Dr. Corry has focused many of his efforts on veterans' issues. He is the founder and president of the Equal Justice Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works with veterans dealing with the legal system, trying to prevent their arrests and helping them through court. Dr. Corry has also conducted research on veteran health issues and the societal impact of veteran arrests. Furthermore, his organization concentrates on the defense of basic civil liberties, and preventing domestic violence against men in Colorado. Aside from his nonprofit work, Dr. Corry conducts and publishes an abbreviated review of Colorado judges every two years, so that citizens can remain up-to-date on judges' history.

Dr. Corry is a geophysicist by trade with a strong academic foundation and professional resume. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1963, he began working as a research associate at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. He earned a Bachelor of Science in geology from Utah State University in 1970, a Master of Science in geophysics from the University of Utah in 1972, and a Ph.D. in geophysics from Texas A&M University in 1976.

Dr. Corry utilized his education in the role of manager of geophysical research for AMAX in Colorado from 1977 to 1982. He then relocated to Texas, where he was the vice president of Nonlinear Analysis, Inc, as well as a visiting adjunct professor of geophysics at Texas A&M University. Dr. Corry spent a subsequent five years as an associate professor of geophysics at the University of Missouri before returning to the Woods Hole Oceanic Institution for five years as coordinator of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment. He continued his career as a database consultant in Denver and Colorado Springs from 1995 to 2001, when he established the Equal Justice Foundation.

As a geophysicist, Dr. Corry's most notable achievements include overturning a paradigm that existed for more than 150 years regarding galvanic current flow in ore bodies. He also discovered that ore minerals are commonly ferroelectrics, and that ore bodies behave as a polarized dielectric medium, or solid plasma, in electrical surveys. Dr. Corry helped develop a controlled source audio-magnetotelluric method for electrical exploration, and also worked with relational database design and data modeling. He has conducted theoretical studies of magmatic intrusions, terrestrial heat flow studies in the North Pacific, and research in intimate partner violence with an emphasis on the relationship to post-traumatic stress and brain injuries.

A Fellow of the Geological Society of America, Dr. Corry is affiliated with IEEE, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the American Geophysical Union and the Marine Corps League. He is the author of "Laccoliths: Mechanics of Emplacement and Growth," published in 1988, "Geology of the Solitario: Trans-Pecos Texas," published in 1990, as well as a number of articles and conference proceedings to professional journals. Dr. Corry was selected to be featured in the 53rd through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 4th through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the 27th through 35th editions of Who's Who in the West, and the 16th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
