Charles Gerard Moerdler Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Born in Paris in 1934 and a wartime evacuee to England, Mr. Moerdler's journey to success began when made his way to the U.S. in 1946. Prioritizing his college education, he received a Bachelor's degree at Long Island University and a JD at Fordham University. Staying in N.Y.C., he went on to lead a successful career in law, starting at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in 1956, serving simultaneously as special counsel of Committees for the City of N.Y. and Judiciary Committees of the N.Y. State Assembly in the 1960's. After a two-year term as commissioner of buildings for the City of N.Y., he became senior partner at Stroock & Stroock & Lavin, LLP in 1967, where he is also co-chair of the firm's litigation practice group.

The firm, which that has been in existence for more than 140 years and consists of a team of 300 transactional, regulatory, and litigation lawyers that work with some of the most prominent organizations, serving leading financial institutions, multinational corporations, investment funds and entrepreneurs throughout the U.S. and abroad, has locations in four major cities, to include Los Angeles, Miami, Washington, D.C., and N.Y.C., where Mr. Moerdler is located. His practice, which concentrates in real estate and land use, healthcare, international law, labor law, and administrative law, has given him the opportunity to represent many of N.Y.'s leading real estate developers and owners, as well as real estate trade organizations, in a number of contexts ranging from antitrust to land use and zoning, brokerage, and contract disputes.

Some of Mr. Moerdler's most impressive contributions to his firm have included serving as general counsel for one of the largest hospitals in the country, in addition to one of the nation's largest health maintenance organizations, and a major N.Y.C. daily newspaper, where he also served as director. Counseling in international litigation, he served as board chairman of the U.S. subsidiary for Austria's largest bank, represented the country's largest electricity and power enterprise, and one of their largest realtors, in addition to representing several other European companies.

Mr. Moerdler served as associate editor for the Fordham Law Review earlier in his career and, since 1985, has been a member of the editorial board for the N.Y. Law Journal. He is active as a member of the American Bar Association, the N.Y. State Bar Association, the N.Y. County Lawyers Association, the International Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of N.Y., and the Metropolitan Club, and serves as a board member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, including Metro North Railroad, Long Island Railroad, N.Y.C. Transit Authority, and Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority (which he chairs), and as a member of the board of directors of the N.Y.C. Housing Development Corporation. Mr. Moerdler previously served as a board member of the Dormitory Authority of the State of N.Y., as well as commissioner of housing and buildings of the City of N.Y., a real estate and development consultant to New York City Mayor John Lindsay, the City's Air Pollution Control Board, and is a former chairman and commissioner of the N.Y. State Insurance Fund.

Admitted to the Bar of N.Y. in 1956, Mr. Moerdler has been admitted to practice by the Second, Fifth, Seventh, and Eight Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the Supreme Court of the United States of Amerca. The recipient of a Walker Metcalf Award by Long Island University in 1966 and a Castle Award by Manhattanville College in 2005, Mr. Moerdler has been named to dozens of editions of Who's Who since 1987, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in Finance Business. Married since 1955 to Pearl G. Hecht, they together share three children.
