HYANNIS, MA, March 3, 2009 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Contemporary American artist Charles Munro has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in folk art painting.

Self-taught artist Charles Munro joined the workforce straight out of high school and has held many interesting jobs including glass glazier, carpenter, and dairy farmer over the past 35 years. He specializes in the creation of New England-style coastal folk paintings, working primarily with painted wood and mixed-media sculpture. His sincere and bold style is unmistakable. Never one to be bound by traditional technique, his extensive repertoire includes life-size wooden people, full-size tables, benches, wardrobes and even large wall murals, all of which are painted and adorned in his trademark style. Particularly inspired by American history, animals, the Civil War and sporting events, Mr. Munro admittedly favors certain themes for his work.

A world-renowned modern painter and sculptor, Mr. Munro's work is featured in many high-profile public and private collections including The Smithsonian Institute, Penny Marshall, Kenny Rogers, The Clinton White House, Cliff Robertson, The New Yorker Magazine and Sylvester Stallone, to name just a few. He is an avid public speaker who taught at the Cahoon Museum of American Art, the Nantucket Historical Association's Whaling Museum & Historic Sites and the New York State Historical Association. Mr. Munro has been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the New York State Historical Association. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Nantucket Historical Association, and Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. He aspires to continue creating murals and conduct more educational seminars in the future.
