Now an author, activist and board member of several advocacy foundations, Mrs. Townsend is a former two-term Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. Since her unsuccessful race for the Governorship in 2002, she has dedicated herself primarily to speaking and philanthropy. She is the eldest daughter of former Senator and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy.
The Center for Women is a nonprofit organization committed to the excellence and professional success of women in the Lowcountry, an unofficial region describing South Carolina's coastal counties south of and including Charleston.
