BANGKOK, THAILAND, March 26, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Chateau de Bangkok, a boutique hotel in the center of Thailand, is expecting to see a jump in visitor numbers with the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) recent decision to promote the area as part of the Buddhist Circuit for international visitors.

TAT recently organized an educational trip for interested parties for the new promotion. Bangkok is the first leg of the Buddhist Circuit in Thailand, which continues on to Chiang Rai, Thachilek, Kengtung, Bagan and Yangon before finishing in Bangkok again. While marketing has not yet commenced, a feasibility study has been completed, and the tourism industry is now working on connecting both Thailand and Myanmar with India, known as the birthplace of Buddhism.

Chateau de Bangkok enjoys a central location in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok, with easy access to various temples, including Wat Pho, the oldest temple in Bangkok, as well as Wat Saket, Wat Suthat, Wat Bowon Niwet, Wat Mahathat and Wat Indra Wihan, with a 32 meter tall reclining Buddha. There are also several smaller temples on Sukhumvit Road.

"We feel Chateau de Bangkok is a great fit for Buddhist Circuit travelers, especially those from the West", said Ms. Somrudee Nooner, Director of Marketing and Communications. "While the hotel is crisp, comfortable and well-serviced, it is not in an ultra-luxury style which would be out of step with the Buddhist philosophy. And of course, we have easy access to so many temples", Mr Nooner continued.

Surveys show that between 230 million and 500 million people worldwide identify as Buddhist. Buddhism in the West, one of Thailand's traditional tourism markets, is also a growing phenomenon. Tens of thousands of people at a time regularly come to hear the Dalai Lama speak; a series of major events was recently held in London commemorating the Chinese invasion of Tibet, Buddhism's spiritual homeland; and an African American woman recently become a Buddhist abbot for the first time, as well as receiving an International Award for her religious work.

"The popularity of Buddhism as a religion and a way of life is growing", said Ms. Nooner. This bodes well for Thailand and Bangkok in particular, as a Buddhist tourism destination".
