Drawing upon more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Hsu is a well-known expert in the areas of decision sciences and engineering systems. For more than two decades, Dr. Hsu has served the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a professor. Prior to pursuing a career in engineering, Dr. Hsu received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at Tunghai University in 1973. He went on to attend The Ohio State University, where he earned both a Master of Science degree in 1978 and a PhD in 1983.
During this time, Dr. Hsu served as a graduate research assistant and graduate teaching associate with the university. He initially joined Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1982 as an assistant professor, a position Dr. Hsu held for six years before taking on the role of associate professor in 1988. Since 1996, he has served as a professor with Rensselaer Polytechnic University.
Dr. Hsu holds several inventions as a recognized authority in engineering education. He has authored or co-authored over 100 scholarly papers and several texts in his areas of focus, including "Enterprise Integration and Modeling: the Metadatabase Approach," "Service Enterprise Integration: An Enterprise Engineering Perspective," "Service Science: Design for Scaling and Transformation," and "Information Systems: The Connection of People And Resources For Innovation," among others. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Hsu has received grants from a variety of sources, including the New York State Department of Transportation, U.S. Army, National Science Foundation, NATO, Samsung, IBM, GM, GE, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Aluminum Company of America.
In an effort to stay active and engaged among his professional circles, Dr. Hsu maintains involvement with the ACM, INFORMS and a number of other professional societies. Additionally, he is recognized as a senior member of the IEEE and Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and a former member of the board of directors with the North American Chinese Business Educators Association.
