/24-7PressRelease/ - EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA, September 29, 2005 ~ On October 8th, 2005, Canadian author Cheryl Kaye Tardif will launch her latest mystery novel, The River, at The River Launch Party. The event is sponsored by Victor Guan, owner of Cappuccino Affair (4341-50th St., Edmonton, Alberta), and it takes place from 7-10 pm.

The River is Tardif's latest mystery, set in the Nahanni River area in Canada's Northwest Territories. It explores local legends of headless corpses and missing people, nanotechnology and the search for youth and longevity.

From the back cover:

How far do we go until we've gone too far?

The South Nahanni River has a history of mysterious deaths, disappearances and headless corpses, but it may also hold the key to humanity's survival—or its destruction.

Seven years ago, Del Hawthorne's father and three of his friends disappeared near the Nahanni River and were presumed dead. When one of the missing men stumbles onto the University grounds, alive but barely recognizable and aging before her eyes, Del is shocked. Especially when the man tells her something inconceivable. Her father is still alive!

Gathering a group of volunteers, Del travels to the Nahanni River to rescue her father. There, she finds a secret river that plunges her into a technologically advanced world of nanobots and painful serums. Del uncovers a conspiracy of unimaginable horror, a plot that threatens to destroy us all. Will humanity be sacrificed for the taste of eternal life?

And at what point have we become...God?

The River has already received rave reviews, and promises to keep fans "clamoring for more", says Heather Andrews Miller, who wrote a review for the Edmonton Sun. "Cheryl Kaye Tardif has once again captivated readers in her third novel and latest suspense thriller, The River. Set in the wilds of Canada's north, The River combines intrigue, science, love and adventure..." The full review should appear in the Edmonton Sun soon.

S.L. Bartlett, a reviewer for Silver Moon Magazine had this to say about The River: "A wild river ride of tension, intrigue and romance as a motley crew of adventurers take you on a search for a man of the past who holds the key to the future, and the secret to eternal youth and power. Hang on--it's going to be a bumpy ride! Excellent read!"

And Christina Francine, a reviewer from Midwest Book Review says, "Exciting and vivid. Tardif's latest novel sweeps readers along into uncharted, wild Canadian territory. A thrilling adventure where science sniffs harder, desperate to find the fountain-of-youth." You can read the entire review at MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW!

Cheryl Kaye Tardif is best known for her debut novel, the emotional mystery novel, Whale Song, which featured the painting 'Sanctuary' by acclaimed US artist David Miller on its cover. A screenplay is underway at the request of a leading Canadian executive producer.

With Divine Intervention, Tardif has been compared to Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb in her 'In Death' series), Patricia Cornwell and Canadian author Kathy Reichs, whom Tardif feels "especially proud of". Divine Intervention has also been compared to the hit TV show Medium, and is the first book in the Canada-based series.

Tardif has appeared on Global Morning News, CFRN, A-Channel (now City TV), Shaw TV (Edmonton and Red Deer), CJSR radio, New Age Radio (Waukegan, Il., USA), and she has been featured in Edmonton Woman Magazine, The Edmonton Examiner, Alberta Native News, California Chronicle and more. Tardif will be appearing on Shaw TV Red Deer on September 30th in the late afternoon.

Tardif's novels, which are all set in Canada, will be available at a special promotional price at The River Launch Party. Come out and meet her, and pick up autographed copies of her books, which make great gifts for anyone who loves a suspenseful read.
