NEW LONDON, CT, November 23, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Child Adoption Resource Association, Inc., (CARA) a non-profit adoption agency, has been awarded grants totaling $7,500 to directly support Project Connecticut's Child. Funds will be used to evaluate families interested in adopting children from the state's foster care system.
"National Adoption Month is an opportunity to celebrate the support from our local community and share with prospective families that adopting children from the state's foster care system can be made possible at little or no cost," said Sandra Couillard, Executive Director for CARA.
Project Connecticut's Child is supported solely by private donations and grants.
The recent grants awarded include $3,000 from The Dime Bank Foundation, $2,500 from The Chelsea Groton Foundation and $2,000 from The Liberty Bank Foundation.
For nearly twenty years, CARA has worked to advocate and support adoption in eastern Connecticut. Annually, CARA matches approximately 15-20 children with "forever" families.
"Many families who have adopted are eager to share their stories," said Kerri Charette, Family Recruiter for CARA. "They also share in the responses from the National Adoption Attitudes Survey—that the stereotypes people may have are simply untrue."
Families can learn more about adoption by calling 860-444-0553 or by visiting http://www.adoptacarakid.org.
