/24-7PressRelease/ - WEST MIDLANDS, UK, April 13, 2006 - Popular Website BuytheMap this week sold its most expensive territory yet - China. Selling for a massive $255 dollars on Ebay. Previously Spain and France had topped the ranks selling for 170 dollars each but they have just been blown out of the water!

Since its conception BuytheMap has been selling countries each week on Ebay, and the popularity of the site has been going from strength to strength. With 120,000 hits since Christmas and regulaly ranking in the top 100,000 Web sites on the net as measured by Alexa the clever people are grabbing land early. Interestingly quite a number of other sites are jumping on the bandwagon, as it seems pixel advertising just went Map based.

Owner of Pakistan http://www.thepixelunderground.com has seen nearly 2000 unique click throughs from the site, since winning the country.

The novel idea was the brainchild of Frenchie a 25 year old entrepreneur from Birmingham who first came up with the concept back in January.

'It was a bit of a lightbulb moment, I was lying in bed trying to develop clever ways to generate some cash, when I thought about selling the world. There are no copyright issues, and the national identity of the countries means so much to so many people for all sorts of weird and wonderful reasons, I had to register the domain name right there and then. It was such a radical idea at first my friends just didn't get it!'

As for the sale of China? 'Well I knew China would be a great country to own, and I knew if people could see the potential of the site, prices could rocket....
Interestingly some of the more highly desirable countries are still avaliable, USA, USSR and yes the UK are still in the race'

This week 10 countries are up for sale in a bit of a goldrush - so fancy owning your own empire??

The first website in the word to sell the world...?
