ChongNak Son Celebrates Four Decades of Professional Excellence in Psychology

Dr. Son earned The Korea Best Scientist Award (23rd) through The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies



    JEONJU, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, November 21, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ChongNak Son has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After accruing 40 years of experience in his field, Dr. Son retired from Chonbuk National University; he now serves the University in a Professor Emeritus role and also a Retired Research Professor role in the department of psychology. At the start of his career, he worked as a research fellow and teaching assistant for SungKyunKwan University. From there, he transferred to Chonbuk National University, working in numerous teaching positions, including instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, and professor. Over the years, Dr. Son has been President of the Korean Psychological Association, the Korean Health Psychology Association, the Korean Behavioral Medicine Association, and the Korean Meditation Psychology Association. At Duke University he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Psychology.

A graduate of SungKyunKwan University, Dr. Son holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Arts and PhD in Clinical Psychology. In order to remain active and engaged among his professional circles, he affiliates himself with the Korean Clinical Psychology Association, the Korean Society of Stress Medicine, the Korean Society of Mediation, the Constructivist Psychology Network, and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, as well as many others. An expert in his field, Dr. Son has been awarded many times for his work in the field, earning a Best Research Achievement Award through Chonbuk National University, a Best Paper Award through The Society of Digital Policy & Management, and a KCPA Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2016 he was the first KPA Fellow through the Korean Psychological Association.

Now he is interested in creative writing with Haiku (Japanese poem) and Sijo (traditional Korean poem) for mindfulness and empathy, metaphor in Asian culture & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and KukSunDo (traditional Korean meditation) for healing. Looking ahead, Dr. Son intends to enjoy his retirement, while also continuing to serve in an emeritus capacity with Chonbuk National University.
