Cindy Sytsma, Ph.D., Named a VIP Member of Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Higher Education

    POWAY, CA, January 31, 2012 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Cindy Sytsma, Ph.D., Assistant Professor for National University, has been named a VIP member of Cambridge Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.
Attributing her success to her desire to make a difference in the lives of others, Dr. Sytsma's first exposure to special education was while working as a T.A. in high school. While working in the field of law enforcement, she realized her passion for teaching and research. That was eight years ago and for the last four, she has served as an assistant professor at the nonprofit National University. She focuses on special education and just recently developed a Master of Science program in Juvenile Justice Special Education. Additionally, she teaches credentialing and master's courses in both special education and juvenile justice, develops course curriculum, is a program reviewer, a member of the Institutional Review Board and the center lead for San Diego County. She also supervises and mentors a team of adjunct instructors, student teachers and interns.
In 2009, Dr. Sytsma earned a Ph.D. in human services, with a concentration in criminal justice, from Walden University. Previously, she received a Master of Education at California State University San Marcos and a bachelor's degree in criminology from California State University, Fresno. She is a member of the National Education Association, the American Society of Criminology and the American Council on Rural Special Education. In 2008, she received a Presidential Award from National University. Looking forward, Dr. Sytsma hopes to conduct research in the field of juvenile justice.
