AMMAN, JORDON, November 29, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The City of Amman announced today that all the shows in its upcoming inaugural Amman Stand Up Comedy Festival scheduled for December 2-5, 2008 have sold out. The Festival has been officially expanded to a fifth night to December 6 to accommodate the overwhelming demand however this extra show featuring Festival headliner Russell Peters also sold out in a few hours.

The Festival also announced today that in an effort to encourage more Jordanians to become involved in stand up comedy, the Festival will be holding a free stand up comedy workshop on Saturday, November 29 to be taught by well-known Arab-American comedians Dean Obeidallah and Aron Kader from the famed "Axis of Evil" comedy tour. The workshop will be held at at 5:00 PM at the Al-Hussein Cultural Center in Amman. Immediately after the workshop, open auditions will be held searching for a few funny Jordanians to add to the line up for the upcoming Festival.

"We are pleased that the Festival was met with such great enthusiasm from Jordan and all over the Middle East. We anticipated that this festival will increase tourist traffic to Amman during the month of December and from the positive indications it seems that might just be possible. The open call for auditions on November 29th, 2008 which will take place at the Al-Hussein Cultural Center, will also support our attempt at placing Jordan and its talent pool on the international map of comedy, as a number of Jordanian comics will appear in front of a judging panel to determine if they can be included in the Festival's lineup," explained Mayor of Amman, Mr. Omar Maani.

The Amman Stand Up Comedy Festival is a not for profit Festival created by the City of Amman and marks the first stand up comedy festival ever held in the Middle East.
