LARCHMONT, NY, November 08, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- On the heels of its record-setting Fifth Annual Fine Art Auction, Clarke Auction announces its Monday November 10th sale, with 300 lots including 60+ lots of Midcentury Modern design plus Antiques and Decorative Arts from local estates, perhaps highlighted by a estate-fresh rare Tiffany mosaic plaque of a goddess in its original tabernacle frame. Other Tiffany pieces include a signed bronze lamp and shade and Tiffany clocks.
The
mid-century modern collections include furniture, carpets, lighting and porcelains from Hans Wegner, Paul Evans, James Mont, Pierre Cardin, Vladimir Kagan as well as a pair of chrome and leather Dunbar benches, a rare 1955 Lamp from Arteluce, and pieces attributed to Tommi Parzinger and others.
The antique includes a period George I Secretary-Bookcase with a Parke-Bernet provenance; a pair of brass-ringed oak peat buckets with brass feet; a Chinoiserie decorated tilt top table; twelve antique Sarouk carpets; three tea caddies, one tortoise shell; and a 19th Century banded dining table.
Most rare for Clarke is a
17th Century Restoration Bible bound in vellum, dated 1660/1661, dedicated to Charles II and printed by John Field and John Ogilby with original illustrations and maps of Biblical Palestine.
Decorative arts are most distinguished by a rare Tiffany Mosaic of a Goddess in original tabernacle frame, fresh from a local estate along with a bronze Tiffany lamp and shades, each signed; and a Tiffany bronze and glass glove box as well as two Tiffany clocks. Other decorative highlights are an oversized art glass sculpture by David Goldhagen, midcentury and contemporary Murano glass, pieces signed Rene Lalique; Daum Nancy, Schenider; china from Royal Copenhagen, Crown Derby, Noritake, Lenox, Raymond Lowey, Carol Stupel, Staffordshire and more. This auction also includes substantial lots of sterling silver candelabra, serving pieces and flatware including Frigast .
As always, an unusual collection of fine lighting such as lamps, sconces, and chandeliers including midcentury, antique and Art Deco will be featured.
