Harvey Probber Suite
LARCHMONT, NY, October 07, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- On
Monday, October 13, 2008 at 6:00 pm, Clarke will offer 40 Old Master paintings fresh from a Scarsdale estate; Spanish Colonial art and sculpture from an operatic estate; 18th and 19th century furniture from various estates; fine modern art and midcentury modern from a Stamford collector.
This sale coincides with the celebration of Clarke's Tenth Anniversary in its Larchmont location and typifies the company's historic ability to uncover the exceptional from estates and consignors throughout the greater New York region.
This sale, however, is unusual in
its Old Master collection, fresh from a Scarsdale estate, with forty Italian and Dutch paintings on canvas and panel. Coincidentially, Clarke also obtained a large group of
Spanish Colonial paintings and sculpture from a Manhattan estate.
Antiques are highlighted by an early French bombe serpentine-front commode, a period blackamoor console, a 17th-18th Century tapestry, antique Spanish pieces, and more.
Other fine art highlights include an 18th Century oil by Angelo Maria Crivelli of game birds, a signed period still life; modern art by Marcia Marx, Maurice Ghiglion-Green, Ramon Santiago and Michael Baxte.
Decorative highlights are a lacquered rosewood dining table, a massive sculpture of a saint, an antique Tyrolean house, and antique iron sconces among others.
Midcentury modern is highlighted by the Probber suite, John Stuart bachelor chests, Silkeborg rosewood tables, and more.
Fine watches are a midcentury Movado Ermetophon and a P.H.Ferrot. enameled pocket watch, possibly gold-filled.
Much more being catalogued as this goes to press...
Founder and owner Ronan Clarke notes that
"this is a surprising sale, even for Clarke, with its great collection of Old Masters as well as the Spanish Colonial pieces. But we still have the midcentury, the antique furniture, fine art, carpets and decorative pieces that have kept this auction thriving for the past ten years."
