    LARCHMONT, NY, February 05, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Clarke's Monday, February 9th Auction will feature the unique and the exceptional as well as a touch of the macabre. Midcentury Modern Design, a range of 18th-19th Century antique furniture; chandeliers with rock crystal pendants; Oil Paintings by listed artists, Sterling Silver including Jensen featured in its 350+ lot sale.

Manhattan Monuments Clarke is offering a classic bronze revolving door from New York's late and legendary Biltmore hotel along with a Biltmore fireplace mantle and room table lamps. A complete limited edition set of "The Monuments of Paris" wall panels created by The Twigs in partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art is also a highlight of this sale. The Met has an identical set after Joseph Dufour's 1804 version installed in a period room in the American Wing. Clarke's "Monuments" consists of 25 rolls, appears completely unused, with special English backing material and is still in its original sleeves with original brochures.

Antiques include a signed J & J.W Meeks rosewood and marble dresser; a Regency rosewood pier table and lolling chair; a Pembroke-style desk, American Empire pieces, an English walnut two-door cabinet, a mahogany server, a Tudor-style server, a Victorian walnut bookcase with carved crown, and a small 18th-19th Cent Louis XV-style vitrine. The auction also features a collection of 1860's cartes-de-visite of Lincoln, his cabinet, and his Civil War generals and admirals.

Midcentury Modern includes an Eames midcentury black leather chair & ottoman; a pair of signed Knoll chairs by Gae Aulenti, a Paul Evans Midcentury Cityscape Floor Lamp, Paul McCobb tables, a complete John Stuart rosewood, ebony and chrome bedroom suite; a Willett walnut or rosewood desk, a signed Directional cherrywood chest, midcentury glass, aluminum, and lucite lighting as well as a pair of Magneplanar Tympani 1D speakers.

Fine art includes a WPA style watercolor of New York signed Hollander, a superb and old signed still life; an oil by William Anderson Sherwood; a large unsigned WPA-era oil of the Brooklyn docks; and three midcentury modernist oils by Martin Rolland. Of special interest is an Edition Picasso ceramic plate in good condition.

Ronan Clarke notes "We have unusual pieces in this sale - "The Monuments of Paris", the Biltmore pieces, a complete human skelton, a carved marble sculpture of a young faun or the god Pan, the audiophile speakers, fine semi-antique and modernist carpets; the Lincoln collection, and the complete volumes of ANTIQUES magazine." He adds "but we have a strong general auction in addition to the unique and strange items."
