/24-7PressRelease/ - CLARKSVILLE, TN, May 16, 2008 - CW2 Clint Tabor enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1995, and served with the 101st Airborne Unit, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky until 2001. In 2001 when his contract was up, he separated from active duty and joined the Arizona National Guard when his family moved there from Fort Campbell.
While Tabor was in Arizona, he worked as an airline pilot for Mesa Airlines. But in the summer of 2006, his unit was activated for deployment, and they then moved to Fort Hood to train for one year before deployment.
In January of 2007, Tabor and his unit finally made it to Kandahar, Afghanistan where he served proudly for seven months before being brought back to the states for medical evaluation for a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)-related injury.
"As an airline pilot with the Army, it was imperative that I was fully rested and alert for duty, otherwise I would compromise lives," Tabor recalled. "I had insomnia and wasn't sleeping at all, so they sent me home from Afghanistan for evaluation."
When he was flown home in September of 2007, by way of the Army's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, Tabor was immediately put under observation for his PTSD that was causing his insomnia.
"Since I have been home, my insomnia has improved drastically and I know that most of it has to do with the fact that the other members of my unit have since returned home, completely safe and sound," Tabor said. "This had a lot to do with me not sleeping; I was worried about my guys. But I still don't sleep like I used to."
But now, Tabor thinks that he might be able to get the sleep that he once did before his deployments.
Tabor was selected as this week's winner to receive a free Craftmatic Adjustable Bed because of his injuries and military service. Craftmatic is delivering one free bed a week to a deserving injured veteran, through the CraftmaticCARES Program.
"Because of my insomnia, I was overjoyed when I first heard that I would receive a Craftmatic bed," Tabor said. "Right now I use a memory foam mattress, and it is okay, but I think that the adjustable nature of the Craftmatic bed will really help me sleep better and hopefully cure my insomnia."
