Classy Awards Honor Charity
The Second Annual CLASSY Awards were held November 7 in San Diego California, where a plethora of the Nation's finest came out to recognize the top philanthropic achievements by charities, businesses, and individuals from eight major cities.

    NEW YORK, NY, November 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nominees from Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. earned votes via on-line voting, to determine one winner in each of the ten non-profit categories.

The winners were announced live during the Hollywood-esque award ceremony, reminisce of the Academy Awards but philanthropy-inspired and was streamed live on NBC affiliates' websites in the participating cities.

Featuring a host of celebrity presenters, top-tier entertainment, nonprofit & technology leaders, the CLASSY Awards deserve an award of their own for raising more than $100,000 in the form of cash and in-kind services to be donated to support the charitable efforts of the ten National CLASSY Awards Winners.

This years' big winner, Nourishing NYC, took home the Charity of the Year Award.

"We grew up in maybe the not traditional way," said Co-Founder / Director Scott Keatley upon receiving the award, "We experienced a lot of hardships in our lives, we dealt with poverty, homelessness and hunger in own lives and we saw this in our community and we decided to take action, take direct action and over the course of last few years we've developed programs where we feed, we educate and we advocate for those most in need in our community and we are absolutely thrilled to be up here accepting this award."

CLASSY Award winners included:
• Most Philanthropic Business: Boston-based Strong Women, Strong Girls;
• Most Innovative Use of Social Media: SF-based The Office of Letters and Light;
• Most Influential College Student or Organization: Boston-based The Dream Program, Inc.
• Most Successful Fundraiser by a Group or Individual: C.U.R.E. Ride for LHON Research, Jeremy Poincenot of San Diego
• Small Charity of the Year: The Nomi Network of New York City

Celebrity presenters and guests included: Brian Sirgutz (President of Causecast.org and Impact/Education Editor at Huffington Post); Kiptyn Locke (The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad); Tenley Molzahn (The Bachelor and Bachelor Pad); Tony Hseih (CEO of Zappos and Author of Delivering Happiness); Matt Mahan (VP of Impact at Facebook Causes); Garone (CEO and Founder of Movember); Laron Poole (CEO and Founder of Invisible Children); among many others.
