Co-Author of New E-Book, But I'm Hungry! Says Obesity Doesn't Have to Overwhelm American Society

The obesity problem in America keeps getting bigger--and so do people. But it doesn't have to be that way. A new e-book, But I'm Hungry! offers a practical solution.

CITRUS SPRINGS, FL, September 29, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- But I'm Hungry! is the first book to take a comprehensive look at one of the root causes of obesity: hunger.

"While the concept is deceptively simple, the reason many people fail to stick to healthy diets is simply that they get hungry. If we--as individuals and a society--could deal more effectively with that one issue, we could avoid a whole range of problems that ruin lives and threaten to overwhelm society," comments Crystal Petrello, registered dietitian and co-author of But I'm Hungry!

People--and the problem--keep getting bigger!

According to an August 26 report in the medical journal The Lancet, the number of obese people in the United States will increase from 99 million in 2008 to 164 million by 2030, and the number of obese people in the United Kingdom will increase from 15 million to 26 million.

The report goes on to say that, in the United States, the cost of treating obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke, will increase $66 billion per year by 2030, and represent a 2.6 percent increase in overall health spending.

In the United States, the increasing rates of obesity will mean 7.8 million additional diabetes, 6.8 million additional cases of coronary heart disease and stroke, and 539,000 additional cancer cases by 2030.

"This problem is just going to keep growing, unless we face one basic fact: There is no way people can stick to a healthy diet if they're hungry all the time. That's why we've created a blueprint that helps them stay satisfied. We show people what foods to eat, how to combine foods and when to eat," Petrello says. "This is the kind of sensible approach to eating we need to beat the obesity epidemic."
