Colin Campbell Recognized for Commitment to Education

Mr. Campbell was the president of Wesleyan University for nearly two decades

    WILLIAMSBURG, VA, October 25, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Colin Campbell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Campbell graduated from Columbia University with a JD in 1960. He worked as an attorney in Connecticut for two years before moving to New York and joining the American Stock Exchange, eventually taking on the role of vice president in 1964. His interest in education led him back to Connecticut, where he became the administrative vice president of Wesleyan University in 1967. Widely regarded for his sound judgment and commitment to educational excellence, Mr. Campbell was appointed president of the university in 1970, just three years after officially entering the education sector. Upon his retirement in 1988, he became the president of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund where he focused on international grant making and support for the non-profit sector in the United States. In 2000, he became chairman, president and CEO of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where he led an "education for citizenship" initiative. He is now Chairman Emeritus of the Foundation.

Since 1972, Mr. Campbell has received honorary degrees from several esteemed universities, including Amherst College, Williams College, Cedar Crest College, Georgetown University, Trinity College, Fairfield University, Connecticut College and Wesleyan University. Most recently, he was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters from the College of William and Mary in 2013. He maintains involvement with the Century Association, Council on Foreign Relations, and American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He was recently recognized with the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award.

In recognition of his celebrated career, Mr. Campbell has been featured in a wide variety of honors publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World. He is also the recipient of the DeWitt Clinton Medal, awarded by the New York Historical Society in 2008, as well as the President's Award from Preservation Virginia and the Chautauqua Institution President's Medal, both of which he received in 2014.
