SANTA FE, NM, April 17, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "You Only Live Twice" is a classic James Bond novel complete with exotic backdrops and plenty of booze, broads and death. In 1967, the book was adapted into a film starring Sean Connery. Other than the Japanese setting and a few characters the book and movie are very different.

When Ian Fleming was close to finishing "You Only Live Twice" he sent friend Richard Hughes a postcard from Jamaica.

"I'm grinding away at Bond's latest but the going gets harder and harder and duller and duller and I don't know what I'm going to do with him. He's become a personal -if not public—nuisance. Anyway, he's had a good run, which is more than most of us can say."

Fleming was dying at the time and his remarks are foretelling about his own life.

On Dec. 11, Profiles in History in Calabasas Hills, Calif., featured a selection of Ian Fleming items in its Hollywood Auction. Today, there is an active market for collecting Fleming's first edition books in their dust jackets.

An original second draft, hand written manuscript on yellow legal paper of "You Only Live Twice", signed by screenwriter Ronald Dahl sold in the sale for $94,400.

The manuscript contains extensive handwritten corrections. Original Dahl material relating to his Bond screenplay is scarce. For additional Fleming prices visit LiveAuctionTalk.com.

About LiveAuctionTalk

LiveAuctionTalk.com is devoted to the rare, weird and wonderful objects people love to collect.

• One of the largest "Live" auction information databases on the Internet.
• Over 750 articles including photographs are currently FREE to website visitors.
• FREE weekly subscription.

Rosemary has provided auction coverage and analysis on thousands-and-thousands of antiques and collectibles sold since the column started 16-years ago. She includes auction sale results to give readers a feel for what their treasures are worth because the power of auctions is simple.

When the bidding stops and the hammer falls, the value of an item is set. The buyer, not the seller, sets the price, and this simple distinction cuts through all the chitchat about what art, antiques and collectibles are really worth. The emphasis is on today's values, not yesterday's wishful thinking.

Each week another new article is posted featuring a particular area of collecting.

• Every article showcases an auction item and how it fits into the big picture.
• A compelling, historical context is provided for the treasures people collect.
• Collecting tips are offered.
• Current "prices realized" are listed.

Rosemary is the co-author of The Official Price Guide to Fine Art published by Random House and received her training in the trenches working as a professional appraiser and weekly columnist.
