COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, September 29, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- There are multiple ways to straighten teeth nowadays. They all promise the same results but work very differently. Straightening treatments, such as Invisalign or ClearCorrect, are not braces, nor do they require a specially trained orthodontist such as Dr. Scott Suter. The method involves a series of removable molds called aligners. Patients must wear them when they are not eating, brushing or flossing. While effective, some people dislike the maintenance involved. Taking the aligners out and putting them back in can be a nuisance.

"Clear braces are not aligners. They require the same process as traditional metal braces," said Dr. Suter, Colorado Springs orthodontist. "They stay in during the entire duration of the treatment so the patient has to do very little except maintain their oral hygiene regimen and come in for their scheduled appointments."

Clear braces are primarily ceramic. The ceramic is tooth-colored so the end result is a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment. While traditional metal braces have become quite fashionable among preteens and teenagers these days, they still give adults mixed feelings. Clear braces are an excellent alternative to metal braces and aligners.

"Adult braces are quite common," said Dr. Suter. "People often think of children or teens having braces, but many people slip through the cracks when they are young, either because they did not want them or their parents could not afford them."

The time is takes for braces to work their magic varies by case. In general, younger patients can expect to wear braces for about two years. Adults often require longer treatment, because their mouths are fully developed. This means their teeth are less malleable than children and teens. Braces require impeccable oral hygiene. Food particles are easily caught in the brackets and can cause foul breath, tooth decay and stains. When the braces are removed in these instances, the areas under the orthodontia will be noticeably whiter than the parts of the teeth that remained exposed during the treatment.
