Consultonomics Offer Advice on Becoming Self-employed

With self-employment and freelancing on the rise, direct marketing company, Consultonomics has offered their advice to those entering the world of self-employment.

LIMERICK, IRELAND, September 11, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Since the recession more and more people are choosing to become self-employed. Jobs for life have become a rarity in this day and age and Consultonomics believes that this uncertainty has led to many people moving towards having more control of their own lives and finances. This is a huge benefit of entrepreneurship, as it gives people the control to dictate when they work, where they work, what they do and how long for. Entrepreneurship can also lead to an increased income for many, and people like the freedom over their finances. Another huge benefit of entrepreneurship is that people are often doing something they love and in that case it may not feel like work at all.

However, entrepreneurship isn't all plain sailing; there are many challenges entrepreneurs face whilst trying to get their business off the ground. In the early stages financing can be difficult; entrepreneurs will not have a regular or steady income. It can also be difficult to balance home and work life and socialising can be increasingly difficult, leaving some entrepreneurs feeling isolated. Then of course there is the ultimate challenge of making the business a success.

Consultonomics say that for an increasing number of entrepreneurs these risks and challenges are paying off and more and more people are becoming entrepreneurs or self-employed. For those wanting to seize this opportunity Consultonomics has outlined the different types of self-employment.

Sole Trader
A sole trader is more straightforward form of self-employment. Sole traders keep all of their business profits after tax has been paid on them. It can mean some extra risk to the business due to the fact that all business debts must be paid if it fails. But if it's a low-cost business that is unlikely to incur any debts then a sole trader is the right choice of self-employment.

Partnership
A partnership is when a business is owned by more than one person, where they are all responsible for the growth of the company. These partners are also liable for any losses made by the company as well as bills for anything the company owes money on. Profits are shared out between all partners and individual tax and National Insurance is paid by each partner. Partners can be people or companies.

Limited Company
A limited company is a form of business that separates the people that own and run a business from the business itself, making it its own entity. Shares are held by the individuals and profits are owned by the company itself after the company pays corporation tax. These profits are then shared out with the shareholders. Shares in the company can be bought and sold. As long as the law hasn't been broken, company directors aren't made responsible for the business debts if the company makes a loss.
