COOL STORAGE HELPS REDUCE DAYTIME ELECTRICAL LOAD ON THE GRID

Energy conservation is an important strategy in dealing with the growing summertime demand for electricity, but it has no impact on peak demand. Cool Storage, however, can reduce peak electrical demand by upto 20%. This air-conditioning technology also helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

/24-7PressRelease/ - ROSELLE PARK, NJ, August 23, 2006 - Cool Storage stores nighttime produced, cold energy in the form of ice and uses it to cool buildings on the following day. The Cool Storage concept is analogous to a rechargeable battery because it is charged when energy is readily available and used when energy is scarce or not available. And, just like cell phones that are cheaper to use during off-peak periods, Cool Storage saves users money because it produces the ice during off-peak periods, which, in most areas, is much less expensive.

Using off-peak electricity makes more energy available during peak demand periods and thereby forestalls the need for new power plants and transmission lines while averting the risk of power outages. As noted in A Report to Michael R. Bloomberg, by the New York City Energy Policy Task Force, thermal storage systems (another name for Cool Storage) are a viable method of "shifting the peak electric demand for cooling permanently from on-peak to off-peak hours."

This air-conditioning technology also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions because the nighttime electricity it uses is typically generated by a utility's most efficient power plants and is therefore produced and transmitted more efficiently. This saves valuable source energy with less greenhouse gas emissions, which helps our environment.

Currently being used to cool schools, hospitals, commercial buildings, retail stores and houses of worship, Cool Storage lowers energy bills by reducing consumption as well as by taking advantage of time-of-use related incentives offered by utilities in most areas. In addition, its dramatic energy savings make it a factor in many LEED Certified green buildings.
