Counter Terrorist Magazine Covers Annual AIPAC Conference in DC

Showdown between Netanyahu and Obama over Iran intensifies.

MIAMI, FL, March 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The American Israel Public Affairs Committee's annual Policy Conference is considered to be the most important event of the year for the Pro-Israel community and one of the most attended political events in the annual Washington DC calendar with 13,000 attending this year.

Against a background of an increasingly bold Iran, making the final push to nuclear weaponry, the Obama speech to AIPAC yesterday only further served to increase doubts about his resolve. Despite heavy protestations about all the things his administration has done for Israel, Obama failed to even begin to threaten Iran with the consequences of continuing. He really argued that sanctions, that have had no appreciable effect on one of the most dictatorial regimes in History, should be allowed to play out. He even went as far as to say that "loose talk of war" was already causing problems for the US, presumably meaning prices at the pumps. If that was meant to silence Israel to bring down gas prices, it is unlikely to work.

For Israel, a country that correctly views Iran an existential threat, there may not be that much time. As one Israeli official described it, Obama's speech was about "big words but this is the time for big deeds!" Senator John McCain of Arizona expressed similar sentiments by commenting that 'good speeches don't make good policy'.

Netanyahu Israel's Prime Minister is currently meeting with the President. Given the lack of confidence between the men, now on their 9th meeting, it is doubtful that Netanyahu will find it feasible for his country to trust this US President to really do anything about Iran, in view of the policies laid out in Obama's Cairo speech, his approach to Radical Islam in the USA and the lack of resolve in the country for another war. Most agree that a nuclear powered Iran would completely change the politics of the region - against US interest and may even be catastrophic for US foreign policy.

However, the administration rather than building steam for a more coherent policy against Iran is intent instead on getting Israel to compromise its security by promising not to launch a preemptive strike. Most agree that this is US geopolitical problem and that by even discussing delegating this security responsibility to Israel, the US is failing to assert itself and allies in the region are watching carefully. Netanyahu, a real favorite of AIPAC speaks tonight.

Speaking about Iran and other issues are the President of Israel, Shimon Peres, Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, the Republican candidates for President: Romney, Santorum and Gingrich, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnel, Nancy Pelosi, Eric Cantor and other legislators.

Consistently ranked as the most influential foreign policy lobbying organization in the US, the AIPAC conference The Counter Terrorist Magazine will be writing a special article on the subject of the US and Iran in its next issue.
