Covington Who's Who Selects G. William Evarts as an Executive of the Year Member of the Executive and Professional Registry

The selection recognizes G. William Evarts's commitment to excellence among Middle Market Investment Bankers.

CLEVELAND, OH, October 09, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- G. William Evarts, Founder and President of Evarts Capital, Inc., has been selected as an Executive of the Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes G. William Evarts's commitment to excellence among Middle Market Investment Bankers.

G. William Evarts holds a BS in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University, having studied at Phillips Exeter Academy and mechanical engineering at Cornell University. After college he worked in the Industrial Development Department of a major railroad system and subsequently served active duty in the US Army Combat Engineers as a lieutenant.

Mr. Evarts's career path began as a plant location consultant with The Austin Company, a leading industrial plant construction company. A member of a three-man team, he reviewed technical and economic information to determine optimum plant locations for new plant construction and presented findings to management. Next, he joined an international management consulting firm specializing in manufacturing systems and controls, plant layout, and operational planning. He then took a position as vice-president of corporate development for an NYSE corporation, which manufactured railroad equipment. He later joined an investment securities firm to start and run its corporate finance department.

In 1975, Mr. Evarts founded Evarts Capital, which is now the longest running private investment bank in Cleveland, specializing in M&A transactions and related financings.

"The expertise I brought to the field included a background in operations and corporate finance," Mr. Evarts said. "I also brought an ability to listen and communicate well with people. At any rate, the 'people factor' has been extremely valuable in success in this field in all phases, including handling transactions, especially in negotiations, and in building relationships."

The nature of the acquisitions business has undergone huge changes since the 1960's and 70's, according to Mr. Evarts, but certain aspects of running an M&A firm have remained constant: first, the need to continually develop relationships while maintaining old ones is paramount, and second, to provide honest estimates of what one can do for clients in terms of valuing the business and time to completion.

Mr. Evarts anticipates that his firm will continue to be viewed by those lower mid-market strategic buyers from the US and abroad that recognize Evarts Capital as a firm that can be trusted to provide both search and negotiation work that will prove vital to their acquisition plans.

Mr. Evarts is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth and Turnaround Management Association, a board member of Cleveland State University Foundation, and a member of Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Association board.
