Crain's 40 Under 40 List Recognizes Rhys W. Powell, President and Founder of Harlem-Based Red Rabbit

The annual list chooses the most innovative business leaders from a diverse spectrum of nominations from throughout the New York-Metro area.

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY, April 03, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rhys W. Powell, Founder and President of Red Rabbit is recognized by Crain's 40 Under 40 list. This annual list honors 40 people who have achieved success in business before turning 40 years old. Powell is at the center of today's food revolution movement and was saluted for his tireless pursuit to fix the school food system-one community at a time.

Founded in New York in 2005,Red Rabbit delivers 18 thousand made-from-scratch meals a day from breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners to school children across the Greater New York Area. Working with regional farmers, all meals and snacks are prepared daily in the company's Harlem kitchen using fresh ingredients. Each meal is nutritionally balanced and nothing is ever fried. The most innovative part of Red Rabbit, Mr. Powell made a strategic business decision to develop a price structure for the meals and snacks that meet the federal reimbursement rates, making healthy food accessible to the most under-served communities.

"Bad, processed school food is a systemic problem that will probably be changed on a larger scale by a company much bigger than ours," Powell said. "But they will draw inspiration from what we are doing here, and that is what I count as success."

In addition to nutritious meals, Red Rabbit provides educational programs for students, teachers, and parents, including; in-school cooking labs, gardening labs, afterschool and summer programs, and Saturday classes for the whole family.
