/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Glen Ellyn Architectural Review Commission (ARC) selected the Crowne Plaza Glen Ellyn-Lombard (1250 Roosevelt Rd., Glen Ellyn; 630-629-6000) as the winner of the Traveling Trophy Award for its commercial, institutional and multifamily development. The award is given annually to a new development or renovation to a commercial building completed in the previous year, and will be presented to the Crowne Plaza on Oct. 26, 2009 at the Village board meeting for the hotel's renovation projects from July 2008 to September 2009.
"We are very honored and excited to accept this award for our efforts," says Kim Wicker, the Crowne Plaza's general manager. "We are very pleased with the results of the renovation and delighted the Architectural Review Commission is as well."
The Traveling Trophy Award is presented each year to a project that promotes a coherent and unique community identity. The award acknowledges excellence in architecture that achieves the aesthetic objectives of the Village of Glen Ellyn and is intended to recognize and congratulate the extra effort all have given to provide the Village with an outstanding asset.
"We are delighted with the Crowne Plaza's results from the renovation," says Staci Hulseberg, Planning and Development Director for Glen Ellyn. "This award is to show the hotel our appreciation for going above and beyond The Village's standards."
The ARC saw the Crowne Plaza's renovation from a Holiday Inn, which included a new beautiful facade with all new low-emission windows to reduce energy loss, as an improvement to The Village. These transformations were in anticipation of the hotel's grand opening last October.
This award comes on the heels of the hotel's "2009 Green Initiative Award" received last week from the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau recognizing its sustainable practices.
