CSU Institute for Palliative Care Offers New Program

This September, the CSU Institute for Palliative Care will hold community outreach seminars on the theme "Caring for Those You Care About" in San Marcos.

SAN MARCOS, CA, August 12, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While caring for and supporting others offers many rewards for the caregiver, the California State University Institute for Palliative Care recognizes that caregivers must respect their own limits and well-being in order to provide top-quality care. To that end, the Institute has worked with healthcare organizations throughout Southern California to develop the four-part "Caring for Those You Care About" series of community programs. Here at Lake San Marcos on Wednesday afternoons in September, each session will be devoted to a different aspect of caring for someone close to you while still caring for yourself.

"Caring for Those You Care About" is the first in a series of community programs that the Institute will be offering in North County San Diego this fall. The series is cosponsored by the Lake San Marcos Community Association, the Meridian at Lake San Marcos, and LightBridge Hospice and Palliative Care.

"It is important for people to understand the options and local resources that are available to them," says Helen McNeal, Executive Director of the CSU Institute for Palliative Care. "Our community programs show caretakers how to take charge, build a support network, and advocate for themselves and those they are caring for."

The "Caring for Those You Care About" program will take place from 3-5 pm on September 4, 11, 18, and 25 at the Meridian at Lake San Marcos. The cost for the four Wednesday afternoon sessions is $25.
