CSUSM Launches Post MSN Certificate Programs

The School of Nursing and Extended Learning at California State University, San Marcos announces a new series of postgraduate certificates for nurses who have already earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN).

SAN MARCOS, CA, May 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The CSUSM School of Nursing and Extended Learning announced today a new series of postgraduate certificates for nurses who have already obtained the Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN). Building upon knowledge and skills gained at the graduate level, the Post Master of Science in Nursing Certificates are designed to supplement the credentials of nursing students in San Diego and Riverside counties.

"There is a strong demand for nurses in San Diego and Riverside counties who have skills that go beyond the basics," says Mike Schroder, Dean of Extended Learning. "With the Post MSN Certificates, CSUSM hopes to give students the hands-on training and tools that will enable them to advance their careers."

CSUSM Extended Learning is now accepting applications for three post MSN certificate programs:

- The Post MSN Clinical Nurse Leader Certificate readies students to become leaders, managers, and educators at the unit level. A wide variety of courses, from communication to pharmacology, will prepare students to take on the CNL role in a range of clinical settings.

- The Post MSN Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate teaches students to take a holistic, patient-centered approach as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Integrating insights from outside the medical field, students in the Clinical Nurse Specialist program become creative, critical problem-solvers in the healthcare environment.

- The Post MSN Psychiatric Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate focuses on treating patients who are at risk for, or have a diagnosis of, psychiatric and/or mental health problems. Students in this program will move on to provide primary mental health care to patients in a wide array of healthcare settings.

The certificate programs, which take 5 semesters to complete, are offered on a part-time basis, allowing students to continue their education as they pursue their careers. To learn more about the Post MSN Certificate programs, call 760-750-4020 or visit the Extended Learning website at
