GOSHEN, AL, January 27, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Architectural Grille is a proud participant in the historic Pentagon Renovation Project, creating custom designed grilles as tough and lasting as the national landmark itself.

A leader in the manufacturing of custom air return grilles and floor grates, Architectural Grille first became involved in the massive restoration project back in 2002. During the spec writing of the project they worked with architects Shalom Baranes Associates in Washington D.C., and later with General Contractor Hensel Phelps Construction Company.

"Our sales department worked closely with them to come up with custom designed convector covers for the heating units. The Average size was 16 ½" wide by 93" long. Custom 'Z' Clips were also made for installation," said Anthony Giumenta, President of Architectural Grille.

Tom Miller, Pentagon Project Operations Manager for Hensel Phelps Construction Company was struck by the immensity of the project, "Only the people who have worked on this project will completely understand the effort required to renovate a building which is one and a half times the Sears Tower, while it is being occupied by some of the most powerful people in the world," said Miller. "This amazing feat could not have been accomplished without partners like Architectural Grille."

As the largest low-rise office building in the world, the Pentagon measures at about 6.5 million-square-feet, the size of a small city. This important facility houses approximately 26,000 military and civilian employees, and about 3,000 non-defense support personnel. Vital in protecting our national interests, the Pentagon is the home of the national defense establishment, and serves as the center of command control.

Construction on the Pentagon began at the start of World War II and was completed in just 16 months. Not once in its fifty-six year history had it undergone a major renovation. The Pentagon Renovation Program is a long-term effort to conform to contemporary building codes, safety requirements, and standards while retaining its historic appearance and grandeur.

With the first phase now complete, Giumenta says Architectural Grille looks forward to working on the next wedge of the project. "The Pentagon Project has been an exciting challenge for us. We are very humbled to be part of the restoration of one our nation's prestigious landmarks."
