VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, September 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Increasing numbers of companies are releasing green technology that not only benefits the environment, but makes life cheaper and easier. This is a definite plus for busy college students juggling limited finances and packed schedules. When parents reach for their wallets, it's easy for kids to ask for an iPod, new guitar, or LCD TV. However, with the new technologies on the market, students can make responsible decisions regarding the items for which they ask. No longer is it just about them when using the following items:

Green Cell Phones - Many cell phone manufacturers now sell green models made from recycled materials. These devices often require less energy to charge than their more traditional counterparts. Green phones are often sold in recycled boxes, along with an online manual, as opposed to a paper one. Consider this your way to pay back Mother Nature for all the plastic bottles you've forgotten to recycle!! (http://ecoble.com/2009/01/06/green-cell-phone/)
USB Pen Tablet - On average, a student may take 3 pages of notes per class, for between 9 to 12 individual class sessions each week for 16 weeks. If you look at the numbers as a whole, it looks like this: 3x10x16=480 x 8 semesters = 1920 pages of paper per student during a 4-year degree (not including extra notes, love letters, doodles, papers, and midterms).

What if every college student in the country stopped writing their notes out the traditional way? Not only would they lighten their book bag load (always a plus when lugging books for five classes), but 1. Cut the amount of money they spend on paper and pens each year, 2. Reduce the amount of notes lost, 3. Improve organization, and 4. Conserve paper. This electronic notepad lets you take notes on it while in class, then sync up to your computer via USB. They can create files for each subject, turning pounds of notes into a double click on the computer.

These useful little tablets can be found anywhere from Target to Amazon.com, costing anywhere between $60 and $800.

Hybrid Vehicles - Transportation continues to be a necessary element in today's educational process, especially for those students driving to work to fund their education. Choosing a hybrid car can cut fuel costs dramatically. A 1996 study showed that Americans alone saved an estimated 155 million gallons of gas by driving a environmentally conscious vehicle (http://green.autoblog.com/2006/09/08/how-much-gas-do-hybrids-save/). Most models offer eye-catching design, smart interior (MP3, A/C adaptor, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Initially, these automobiles can be a little more expensive, but the payoff is the lighter on the wallet during fill ups and lower emissions.

ABOUT BOB WOLF AND THE GREEN TRAIN PROJECT

The four-year vision of Bob Wolf, The Green Train Project, started in 2005, will educate the public and enlist global support to help reverse the continued waste and destruction of our planet. Scheduled to depart from Portland in April 2010, The Green Train, a solar-powered, biodiesel machine, will pass through every geographic region in the USA during a 10-week, 28-state whistle stop tour finishing in Washington, D.C. The Green Train is planning a trek in Europe in 2011 and a simultaneous train ride on each continent of the world each year after that. As The Green Train holds informational festivals and whistle stops throughout the nation, the public can meet the train in small town America, as well as the larger cities, to learn more and become involved. The messages on which Wolf's project focuses are:
• Everyone can make a positive difference to the future of the earth

• Being green is simple and saves money
