She is a published author and contributed to the book 'Psychotherapy Indications and Outcomes,' written by David Janowsky as well as the article 'The Relationship Between Tamoxifen, Estrogen, and Depressive Symptoms.' Dr. Spanier was head of the research team who produced the scholarly article 'Maintenance Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Recurrent Depression: Biological and Clinical Correlates and Future Directions,' a work that tackles the question of psychotherapy's value as maintenance treatment for a biological disorder.
Dr. Spanier received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997, her Master of Science in Communication Disorders in 1982 and her Bachelor of Science in Communication in 1981 from Marquette University. She is a diplomate in sports psychology, is a member of the Women's Board of Pittsburgh and is an independent distributor for Herbalife International of America, Inc.
