/24-7PressRelease/ - WESTMINSTER, CO, March 29, 2007 - Fifteen participants in the Denver Rescue Mission's New Life Program, a two-year alcohol and drug rehabilitation program, are training for the Post-News Colfax Marathon May 20, thanks to sponsorship from the Dalbey Education Institute and its founder and CEO Russ Dalbey.

Participants in the Denver Rescue Mission's New Life program are fighting homelessness and addiction, but are using the training and marathon participation to find hope and make positive changes in their lives. The members of the Denver Rescue Mission Marathon Team will run side-by-side with staff members from the Mission and Dalbey Education Institute who also have made the commitment to complete the 26.2-mile course.

The men running range in age from 20-to-61 and each man is fighting to change his life. Through this multi-phase rehabilitation program, the men discover that a major life change is not easy, but with small steps, loving support and guidance it is possible. Through the Dalbey sponsorship, each participant has been able to add the challenge of running a marathon to their rehabilitation program, which helps with not only physical fitness, but also goal setting and long-term planning. Each runner receives running equipment, entry fees and four months of training sessions with Galloway Training Group and U.S. Olympian Jeff Galloway.

"As a young man, I went from making a lot of bad decisions to training on the Olympic cycling team because athletics gave me hope and direction. All of us here at the Dalbey Education Institute are proud to give that same kind of hope to these men who have made a difficult decision to change their lives. We've all been inspired by their story, and we look forward to helping these guys change their habits and continue their journey all the way to finish line," said Dalbey.

The stories of these 15 men are as diverse as their ages and the men themselves. One of the runners on the Denver Rescue Mission team is Nick Sterner, Sr., a five-time marathon runner. Sterner, Sr. ran last year's inaugural Colfax Marathon and this year he will run with his son Sterner, Jr. for the first time. Both father and son are residents at the Denver Rescue Mission's Crossing facility and participants in the New Life Program. Several times each week Sterner, Sr. leads the men on neighborhood runs and holds Friday night meetings to educate and motivate the team. Dalbey will speak to the group April 27, sharing how athletics gave him focus and allowed him to leave a troubled youth behind, make the U.S. Olympic development team in cycling and become a successful entrepreneur after his cycling career ended.

In November 2006 Dalbey donated 3,260 frozen turkeys to the Denver Rescue Mission's annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.
