/24-7PressRelease/ - SEATTLE, WA, November 02, 2006 — Mark Salow, published by iUniverse, Inc., the leading provider of publishing technology solutions for authors, announced today the release of Darwin's Orphans, his thrilling work of fiction set in the future. Inspired by the great future fiction pieces of the past century such as 1984, Anthem and Brave New World, Mr. Salow takes a look at a world where a peace movement takes hold and must battle against a terrorist group that seeks to end its dominance. The back-stories of the movement and its opposition are told through sections that take you behind the scenes with oftentimes amusing and sometimes disturbing vignettes that familiarize the reader with the conflicting viewpoints. In the final section, the two forces are going head-to-head in a battle of wits and strategy.

Darwin's Orphans is part personal drama, part social commentary and part action thriller weaved together into a science fiction novel. The name Darwin's Orphans means: the societal vestiges that haven't evolved beyond violent tendencies. This moniker gets introduced by Francisco Ruiz, mentor to pop star Bobby Joe Peak who becomes president of the U.S. The two challenge society to live in a peaceful world that allows them to explore space and solve social problems with the resources that once went to violent activities like national defense.

"I wanted to take a look 25 years into our future and guess at how our world might change," said Salow. "I've read about many promising technologies that can't get traction and have been very troubled by our current political challenges. So, I wondered how we could spring back into an exciting era again as a nation. To this end, I thought up characters that would be vehicles of change. Then I coupled them with the disenfranchised people who would suffer in a new arrangement and made them the nemeses. They are the ones left behind - the orphans in this new peaceful world order. What would they be like and what would they do to retaliate? These were fun questions to ask and very enjoyable to answer through inventive prose."

Darwin's Orphans will appeal to any reader that takes a critical look at the world today and still likes a good story. It is a work of fiction that challenges readers to consider why things are the way they are today. By taking a look at many aspects of technology, communications and socio-politics, Mr. Salow prognosticates through a lively thriller with future circumstances as the backdrop for his drama. The end result is a novel that makes readers think, laugh and sometimes cringe while they go on an exciting ride.

Mark Salow has written screenplays, published poetry and has written professionally in the interactive space on Warner Brother's Prince Interactive as well as online content works.

Darwin's Orphans, ISBN: 0-595-39777-8, published September 2006, sells for $14.95, is published by iUniverse and is available at the iUniverse Bookstore, Amazon, Barnesandnoble.com and Booksamillion.
