MONTCLAIR, NJ, September 9, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David C. Flocco, Head of the Upper School at The Montclair Kimberley Academy, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in educational leadership.
Driven by his interest in education and backed by 16 years of experience, Dr. Flocco serves as the head of the upper school at one of the largest independent day schools in N.J. His position entails leading the upper school at MKA, which consists of approximately 435 students and 90 faculty members. He also supervises an assistant head, dean of students, academic dean, and the dean of student life, who report to him and collaborate with him on both the curriculum and day-to-day activities of the academy, including extracurricular activities and programs. He attributes his success to hard work and being surrounded by good people.
Prior to joining The Montclair Kimberley Academy, Dr. Flocco was the assistant men's swim coach at Harvard University. He has also held positions as a dean of students, college counselor, advisor and history teacher. His numerous career achievements include authoring the citizenship core curriculum for the Edison Project, now known as EdisonLearning; it is an ethics-based curriculum being taught in all Edison Schools across the country.
Dr. Flocco earned an Ed.D. in educational administration from Seton Hall University. His doctoral dissertation focused on school schedules and how they affect students' stress. He also holds a Master of Education in private school leadership from Columbia University's Teachers College, a Master of Arts in teaching social studies education from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Boston University. A board member of Academics in Motion, Dr. Flocco hopes to become a headmaster in the future.
