David G. Richards Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Higher Education

Dr. Richards celebrates a career teaching German and comparative literature at the higher education level that began in 1968



    CHAPEL HILL, NC, April 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Richards has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Richards celebrates a career at the higher education level that began in 1968. He came to prominence early on in his work with the State University of New York at Buffalo. He began his career as assistant professor and over time achieved higher ranks of educator. In 1974, he became an associate professor of German, followed by professor in 1984. In 1986, Dr. Richards became chairman of the language department, which he remained until 1992. He concluded his career as a professor at the university in 1999. In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Richards was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World. He was also the recipient of a number of educational distinctions. He served as guest professor at the University of Cologne, Germany, summer semester 1972. He was a grantee honored by the State University of New York, the National Endowment of the Humanities and the Fulbright Commission. Dr. Richards is also distinguished as a fellow by the Research Foundation of the State University of New York.

To prepare for a career in academia, Dr. Richards attended the University of Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1960 and a Master of Arts in 1961. He then studied at the University of Munich, Germany from 1961 to 1963. Thereafter, he relocated to Berkeley, CA, where he attended the University of California and earned a Ph.D. in 1968. As he has progressed in his career, Dr. Richards has established himself as an expert voice not only in the educational field but in the history of German Culture. He has authored a number of books, including "Georg Buchner's Woyzeck," "George Buchner and the Birth of the Modern Drama," "The Hero's Quest for the Self: An Archetypal Approach to Hesse's Demian and other Novels," "Exploring the Divided Self: Hermann Hesse's Steppenwolf and its Critics," and "George Buchner's Woyzeck: A History of Its Criticism." In addition, Dr. Richards was the editor with H. Schulte of "Crisis and Culture in Post-Enlightenment Germany: Essays in Honor of Peter Heller,"
