David Myungjae Lee Celebrated for Professional Excellence in Music and Event Management

Mr. Lee was recognized as the winner of the Launchpad Competition in 2016



    TORONTO, ON, February 06, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Myungjae Lee has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A highly regarded leader in the industry, Mr. Lee currently works as the president of event management and the artistic director at the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival, as well as the artistic director for the Global Food Festival. Prior to this appointment, he worked at the Han-River Jazz Festival, the Marronnier Jazz Festival, Seoul Jazz Night Concert at Seoul City Hall, and at DooTa Jazz Festival. The founder and artistic director of the Korea Undergraduate Jazz Festival, he has previously worked for both the Korea Jazz Association and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the Republic of Korea. He has worked with such renowned artists as Chris Potter, Steve Gadd, Larnell Lewis, Mark Kelso, Pat LaBarbera, Christine Jensen, Adam Rogers, Nate Smith, Mark Sherman, and Tim Horner.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Lee pursued an education at the Paekche Institute of the Arts, earning an Applied Music Diploma in 2006. In 2007, he enlisted in the Republic of Korea Army, serving in the Special Forces until his honorable discharge in 2009. Mr. Lee continued his studies at in 2017 at Humber College, graduating from the School of Creative & Performing Arts with a Bachelor's Degree of Music.

In recognition of his contributions, Mr. Lee has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career, including receiving Gold Medals from the Seoul City Competition Track & Field Competition in 1998 and 1999 of his innovations at the first undergraduate jazz festival in Korea, the biggest indoor jazz festival in Korea, the only undergraduate jazz festival in North America, and the biggest jazz festival to mainly feature young and emerging musicians in North America. In 2007, he was honored with first place in the Army of the Season at the Korea Army Training Centre. Most recently, Mr. Lee won the Launchpad Competition in 2016.

Driven by the lack of music festivals for creative young artists to showcase their work and network properly, Mr. Lee is most proud of his work with the 2017 edition of the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, listening to live jazz music, and playing drums. Looking towards the future, Mr. Lee hopes to establish his citizenship in Canada while traveling around to experience different music festivals and cultures.
