Dr. Lonzer began her tenure as Chair for the Department of Community Pediatrics at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital in 2007
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH, December 13, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Deb Lonzer, Department Chair for the Department of Community Pediatrics at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in pediatric medicine.
Dr. Lonzer began her tenure as Chair for the Department of Community Pediatrics at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital in 2007 and she has two decades of experience as a pediatric physician. In addition to clinical pediatric practice, over the years, she has become an expert in physician management, practice management, policy development, and the operations of a medical call center. She has also been involved with education of medical students, residents, patients, patient families, other physicians, and the general public. She has been involved in a variety of research and quality projects. On a daily basis, she is responsible for monitoring productivity and financial data, maintaining quality assurance and patient satisfaction, and standardizing and maintaining clinical expectations for her department. Dr. Lonzer manages a group of more than 75 pediatric providers in 21 sites and multiple counties. That requires her to provide strategic vision with regard to expansion of products and services as needed.
Looking back, Dr. Lonzer attributes her success to her hard work and efficiency, combined with her ability to create opportunities, and knack for being at the right place at the right time. She loved science and mathematics throughout her education, and she became a doctor to be able to use both while maintaining interactions with people. Immediately after completing her medical training, she joined a pediatric private practice in the Cleveland area. After realizing that she missed the intellectual stimulation of being in an academic institution, she joined Cleveland Clinic Children's. As a pediatrician at Cleveland Clinic Children's, she helped organize other community pediatricians from Children's into a network. From that, Cleveland Clinic created the Department of Community Pediatrics - now one of the largest departments at Cleveland Clinic.
One of Dr. Lonzer's favorite motivational quotes reads as follows: "The boss drives people; the leader coaches them. The boss depends on authority; the leader on good will; the boss inspires fear; the leader inspires enthusiasm. The boss says 'I'; the leader says 'we.' The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown; the leader fixes the breakdown. The boss says 'go;' the leader says 'let's go.'" She strives to succeed through her career as a leader, rather than a boss.
Dr. Lonzer received an MD from the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of The Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Science in biology from Bucknell University. She is board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics, Section on Administration and Practice Management and Section on Telehealth Care. She is also a member of the American Pediatric Society, the American Telemedicine Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, she has been presented with a Castle Connolly Best Doctors in America award, Consumer Research Council of America Top Pediatrician award, as well as numerous awards for teaching and research. In addition, Dr. Lonzer has authored a children's book that is currently being published.
