Delivery Technique in Rhinoplasty
A less commonly used technique in rhinoplasty is called the delivery method.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY - November 01, 2007 - The two most common techniques used in rhinoplasty are the open and closed techniques. The third nose reshaping technique is the delivery method, a less commonly used technique where the surgeon essentially integrates principles of both the open and closed procedures. Although the delivery technique is less well known, and not offered by all rhinoplasty surgeons, it does have unique benefits that you may want to consider when planning your rhinoplasty and choosing a cosmetic surgeon.

The open procedure warrants an incision in the columella (the skin between the nostrils), while the closed procedure is done with incisions placed inside the nasal passages. The delivery method may be used when there are certain modifications that need to be made to the nose tip. With the delivery method, there will be no visible scars, but the surgeon is allowed more access to the underlying structure of the tip than in the closed technique. Many surgeons feel that the delivery method causes less swelling and allows for a greater range of surgical alteration.

Some doctors may favor a certain technique, while others may comfortably recommend any one of the three based on your unique situation. Patients seeking nose surgery often prefer to find a cosmetic surgeon who offers all three and who has performed a large number of all types of rhinoplasty procedures. The more options available, the more opportunities there are for true personalization. Since no two noses are alike, you may find comfort in a surgeon who provides a wide range of nose surgery techniques and choices.

The technique that is right for you will depend on the unique characteristics of your nose anatomy, and your idea of the "perfect nose." For patients who need a moderate amount of work done on the tip, the delivery method may be the best option. Some physicians may offer you a choice; others may tell you which technique they prefer. Regardless of the rhinoplasty technique used, your cosmetic surgeon should aim for a natural-looking nose that achieves facial balance and is not too prominent or too weak.

Whether you need an initial change, a revision, or a reconstruction, consider your nose reshaping options and learn more about all three rhinoplasty techniques.
