Dental Health Care Associates Holding Toy Drive to Benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims

Dental Health Care Associates, a comprehensive dental care provider in Aston, Pa., is holding a toy drive to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims this holiday season.

ASTON, PA, December 17, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For some boys and girls in the United States who live in areas where Hurricane Sandy did extensive damage, Christmas may not come this year - without the help of donations.

Dental Health Care Associates, a comprehensive dental care provider in Aston, Pa., is holding a toy drive to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims this holiday season. Dr. Lance Panarello and staff are encouraging patients to bring in new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages 2-15. These toys will be distributed to families who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. The last day to bring in toys is Monday, Dec. 17.

Hurricane Sandy, dubbed a "Frankenstorm" by the media, hit the East Coast on Oct. 29, leaving 3 million people in Pennsylvania and New Jersey without power, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. The New York Times reported that more than 100 people were killed, either during the storm or afterward from damages sustained in the storm.

Financial Damages of Sandy

Hurricane Sandy also left a lasting financial mark on the East Coast. Major cities on the coast were shut down, mass transit systems were interrupted, homes were damaged or completely lost, and stores were closed. There were gas shortages and extended power outages, and heavy cleanup was and still is needed. The economic damage sustained across the country during the superstorm may be as high as $50 billion, according to reports by The Huffington Post.

Donate a Toy, Spread the Joy

In light of such financial struggles, Dental Health Care Associates hopes that the toys being donated in the toy drive will spread some holiday cheer to young children whose parents may simply not be able to provide Christmas this year.

Dental Health Care Associates has placed a large box in the lobby of the office in hopes of filling it with toys for children who may not otherwise receive gifts this Christmas.

Aside from the satisfaction of helping a child, patients who donate a toy will also enjoy a gift certificate for 50 percent off a Zoom! Whitening treatment, an easy, in-office procedure that can whiten teeth several shades in a single appointment. This treatment can completely transform the smile in just a few short hours.

Past Charitable Work

The hurricane relief toy drive is not Dental Health Care Associates' first project to help those in need. Dr. Panarello and the rest of the staff believe strongly in the importance of helping others. In November, the office hosted its first Candy Buy Back Program, an event during which patients could bring in leftover Halloween candy to be donated to children and American troops overseas. The office donated a total of 114 pounds of candy, saving young trick-or-treaters' teeth while also providing something to make the troops smile.

There is still much to be done to rebuild the states that were in Sandy's path, but the donation of a toy could help put a smile back on a child's face.
