Destin Plastic Surgery Offering KYBELLA Double Chin Injections

Dr. William Burden and Dr. Scott Ennis now offer KYBELLA, an FDA-approved injectable that reduces fat under the chin, at Destin Plastic Surgery.

DESTIN, FL, September 20, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Destin Plastic Surgery (www.theplasticdoc.com) is the first practice in the region to offer KYBELLA, an injectable product that reduces submental fullness, more commonly known as a "double chin." The practice will also serve as a national training center for the product, bringing to Destin physicians and medical professionals from around the country as they learn to administer the fat-reducing injections.

"We're very excited to bring KYBELLA to our patients here in the Panhandle and beyond," says Dr. William Burden. "It's really a game-changer for the industry, and patients are going to be very impressed."

Originally developed under the name ATX-101, KYBELLA is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid. This naturally occurring chemical helps the body break down dietary fats. When injected beneath the chin, deoxycholic acid emulsifies fat cells, reducing their appearance and creating a smoother, more refined chin and jawline profile.

KYBELLA has been evaluated in more than 20 clinical studies around the world. In April, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the product to treat submental fullness.

"Its results are very well documented, and it's a great addition to our services," Dr. Burden says. "It's going to help a lot of patients, because the double chin is such a stubborn area that affects many people, whether they are overweight or not. It's a very common source of anxiety, especially in today's culture of 'selfies.' We're much more aware of how our necks look to others."

In the past, people who wanted to treat double chin fat relied on liposuction surgery, the Destin doctors say, so this non-surgical alternative is likely to be popular.

For ideal results, KYBELLA generally requires a series of injections spaced several weeks apart. Although the results can take a few months to fully develop, they are typically permanent, especially if the patient maintains a stable weight.

"As with any injectable, it's imperative that patients visit qualified medical professionals for treatment," says Dr. Scott Ennis, another of the Destin plastic surgeons. "Although KYBELLA's safety has been established, it's still vitally important to select an injector who has a high level of understanding of facial anatomy and the science behind the product."

Both Dr. Ennis and Dr. Burden anticipate KYBELLA's popularity as a solitary procedure but are also excited to use the product to complement the results of other injectables.

"We expect KYBELLA to make a nice addition to 'liquid facelift' procedures," Dr. Ennis says. "By using different products to selectively add and remove volume throughout the face, we can create results that are tailored to each patient better than ever before."
