MIAMI, FL, February 02, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Theft is a very broad term that can be applied to a number of crimes. In general, theft is the taking of someone else's property without permission or any intention of returning it. This is a very general definition, and can be applied to numerous crimes. Simple theft is generally a minor crime that carries with it small penalties including restitution in the amount of the property taken.

Burglary

Burglary is like theft in that property is taken, but becomes a more serious crime because it includes unlawfully entering a premise with felonious intentions. The crime of burglary is more aggressively prosecuted than simple theft, particularly in instances where the premises entered was occupied at the time of the crime. You may be charged with burglary even if you did not successfully take any property.

Robbery

Robbery is theft with the use of force or violence. The most serious of the three crimes, robbery includes taking another person's property while using a weapon, threats, or coercion. Robbery is always a felony, and is prosecuted very aggressively in most states.

You Need an Attorney

No matter what type of theft you are charged with, you need an aggressive criminal defense attorney on your side. Only an attorney can ensure that your side of the story is heard, and justice is truly served.

It is possible that there are areas of gray surrounding your crime. It is also possible that law enforcement acted poorly, violated your rights, or have charged you with a crime that is larger than the one you committed. With an attorney on your side, you can be sure that every aspect of your alleged crime is investigated, and your rights and freedoms are protected.

The district attorney will pursue these cases in an attempt to get a maximum sentence. You need someone on your side who is just as determined to secure your freedom. Oftentimes key evidence is intentionally dismissed by prosecuting attorneys in an attempt to get the maximum sentence possible. You need someone who knows how prosecuting attorneys operate, and who will fight for your rights every step of the way.

If you have been accused of theft, burglary, or robbery in or around Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm, or Ft. Myers, Florida, please visit the website of the criminal defense attorneys at the Cochran Firm South Florida to see how we can help today.
